Water

I am sitting here listening to the sound of water rushing into the well.  Last night, our building's well ran dry( It is suppose to be the monsoon season but we have only gotten drizzles).  So we needed to get some water. There are four and a half households in our building.  When the neighbour upstairs called around to all the water supply shops, she was told that all the supply shops were out of water until Sat. morning.  So we all went to bed dry to wait for morning.

I was up at my usually time, so I got to witness this event:

The lane up to our building from the Sheep Lane is very narrow. So the tanker truck could not back up into it. Fortunately the driver had a long hose, which was unrolled up the small lane and ... was just short by about three feet. So he went back to the truck and found a piece of pipe that was slightly curved. He stuck the hose into the pipe...but the pipe was too big around for the hose. So then he asked for a piece of newspaper (which one the neighbors scrambled around for), wadded it up, and shoved it into the pipe next to the hose to keep it "secure".  Then he mentioned that to get the pump on the truck working he needed electricity. So a very long extension cord was found and plugged in. Once it was all ready, he yelled back down the lane to his assistant to flip the switch and WAALA! water came gushing out. It took him and another guy, standing by to watch, a couple seconds to wrestle the pipe into the hole but now the tank is full and we can flush toilets again ( well, we can after we pump the well water up to the roof tank, so another 20 minutes, but that is another story). In the meantime, there is water on the premises again!

Still praying for rain!
